Val d'Isère is a ski resort with great potential, which it has managed to exploit.
Let's look back at the station's history!
It was at this point that tourism gradually took root in the small village of Val d'Isère.
Tourism development continued. It wasn't until 1933 that the village was transformed into a ski resort. From then on, the resort would rapidly emancipate itself, as only 3 years later, the resort's first ski school was created by an Alsatian named Charles Diebold.
It was after the war that the village's evolution became increasingly important. Shopkeepers, stores, ski instructors and hotels appeared in the resort. Improvements were made, and new cable cars arrived on the site. Val d'Isère was booming; in just over 10 years, the population had doubled!
Over the years, the village gradually established itself as a winter sports resort. Since 1955 and still today, the ski resort of Val d'Isère hosts the annual Alpine Skiing World Cup events, known today as the "First Snow Criterium". Val d'Isère will continue its rise to fame as a winter sports resort, since in 1992, the resort was at the heart of the Albertville Winter Olympics where the men's alpine skiing competitions came to be held. In 2009, for the first time, Val d'Isère hosted the Alpine Skiing World Championships.

And the station today
The giant "Val d'Isère"
Currently, Val d'Isère accounts for 300km of pistes including the Tignes ski area they share. This makes it one of the largest ski areas in the Alps. There's a wide choice of slopes, as there are 158 ski runs across the entire area, accessible to all and for all levels.
This mountain giant never ceases to impress. When you take a closer look at the numbers: 41 chairlifts, 29 surface lifts, 7 gondolas, 2 cable cars, 2 funicular railways and 72 ski lifts. All this for a high point of up to 3456m altitude at the arrival of the Grande-Motte cable car for the Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area. The numerous infrastructures present on the ski area enable the resort to reach a throughput of over 100,000 people per hour!
And after skiing?
This renowned resort also offers activities and leisure that will delight holidaymakers off the slopes: shops, restaurants, the ice rink, the Aqua sportif center, dog sled rides, paragliding, all mixed with the charm of the Val d'Isère village and the resort's distinctive atmosphere.
A memorable stay for holidaymakers.
The Val d'Isère resort continues to develop over the years to strengthen its place as an international resort thanks to its infrastructure, its living environment, its snow or even its quality shops and accommodation.
