What is EU Ecolabel?
An official label for sustainable tourism
Created in 1992 by the European Commission, the European Ecolabel is an official eco-label recognized in all member countries of the European Union. It distinguishes products and services that reduce their environmental impact throughout their life cycle. In the tourism sector, it rewards establishments that adopt sustainable practices while ensuring a superior level of quality and comfort.
France is particularly invested in this approach: it is leader in Europe with over 300 certified establishments out of the 1757 labeled in the Union. This figure bears witness to a growing commitment to more responsible tourism.
Reliable certification
The European Ecolabel is issued by AFNOR Certification, an independent organization that guarantees the reliability of the process. Certification is valid for two years, with regular checks to ensure compliance with the criteria. This makes the label a mark of confidence for environmentally conscious travelers.
In the tourism sector, obtaining the Ecolabel guarantees a significant reduction in the ecological footprint of labeled establishments. This label has a direct impact on the management of many aspects of day-to-day operations.

Labeled establishments must meet specific requirements, including:
Reducing energy consumption
Controlling water consumption
Sorting and reducing waste
Using eco-responsible products
Preservation of biodiversity
Renewable energies
Awareness-raising on eco-responsibility
The aim is to propose environmentally-friendly holidays, without compromising comfort. The improvement of the local environment and the active participation of guests in this process are also an integral part of the label's commitments.
