"Horizons", land art in Sancy

Auvergne loves to put creativity in the spotlight! A land of festivals, it regularly hosts historic and (inter)nationally recognized events. For cinema, it's, among others, "Plein La Bobine" and the "Clermont Film Fest" that stand out. Musically, "Europavox", "Sancy Snow Jazz" or the "Pamparina" ...!"

Many other fields are very well represented; we couldn't possibly list them all!

For many years now, it's been "Horizons, Art-Nature en Sancy " that seems to be making its mark on the Auvergne landscape.

We offer you a little tour ... overview, of this local phenomenon that's reinventing and giving tourism in Auvergne a shot of fun.

Horizons Sancy: art and nature

Horizons is an innovative event that combines art and nature, around an open-air exhibition in the most natural of settings. The concept has made a name for itself, offering majestic works along the hiking trails of the massif du Sancy; the pristine, wild character of this setting offering unparalleled serenity to enthusiasts wishing to discover the works of the various artists.

For its 13th consecutive summer, the organization is pulling out all the stops to offer an eclectic panel to all art enthusiasts, or walkers, who will be crisscrossing the massif. Eleven never-before-seen works are being installed, with the backdrop of a tribute to the Sancy's privileged scenery.

A mission, a commitment

The contemporary works of art at the Horizons festival don't just sublimate nature, they invite visitors to return to the essential, to the fundamentals, and to become aware of its splendor and fragility. Against a backdrop of increasing public awareness of our planet's riches, the event can only be topical, echoing Cévéo's environmental commitment.

Some works, artists, sites to discover in 2019

"Leviathan" at La Bourboule, presented by Camille Bellot and François Pottier, plastician and architect.

| This work symbolizes the jawbone of a monster referring to the legend of the same name: in ancient legends, the appearance of Leviathan refers to the idea of near and imminent cataclysm.

"Trou de vert" in Mont-Dore, presented by French collective Ma.Gy, landscape designer and architect.

| Made of wood and plants, the collective's work aims to demonstrate the power of natural elements brought to the city through a whirlpool.

"Résonance" is located next to the Lac Chambon, at the Moneaux glacial cirque! Presented by "l'Atelier Bleu".

| This octagonal work reflects the edge of the wood, through a succession of mirrors. This mise en abîme also offers a multiplied vision of the immensity of the Sancy Massif sky.

"Akènes, ouverture céleste" in the forêt de Courbanges, also a few kilometers from Murol. Presented by Oriane Bajard, scenographer/plastic artist.

| Made of three suspended wood and steel structures, this staging will allow you to immerse yourself in giant corollas, offering you a breathtaking view towards the sky and the treetops. Forget your feet, and look up into the air!

You'll be able to observe many other land art structures throughout the massif! Chastreix, Saint-Genès-Champespe, Aydat ... are just some of the communes awaiting walkers. They and their secrets will offer themselves to you through the various artists' installations.
