In addition, this territory has been awarded the "Natura 2000" label, which guarantees the protection of natural habitats and contributes to the protection of animal and plant species.
Located between Chambéry and Grenoble, the Belledonne range is a veritable natural paradise. It is around 60 km long and 10 km wide.
It is made up of 3 main massifs:
- The Belledonne massif
- The Sept Laux massif
- The Allevard massif
This is a very wild chain where nature takes precedence. In fact, the flora and fauna of this area are of the utmost importance. The mountains of the Belledonne range are home to all kinds of animals. In this area, you can observe marmots, chamois, ibex, hares...
As for the flora, the nature of its humid soil, grants the development of a large number of more or less rare flower species. At mid-altitude, you'll see many flowers, including arnica, plantain and alchemilla.
Belledonne is a vast territory offering a wide variety of landscapes. There are many lakes (no fewer than 70), rocky outcrops, sharp peaks and alpine meadows. We can count some 193 Belledonne peaks, 31 of which reach altitudes of over 2000 metres.
